Here are just some of the previous events PACT has held as it progresses along the transition journey - these are all part of our efforts to develop a programme of 'awareness raising' events, aimed at promoting the transition concept and the activities of PACT:
| | In March 2010 - PACT held a very enjoyable The evening included some short transition-related films, and some members talking about objects / books / photos which hold personal significance for them as to why they've chosen to become involved with PACT and the transition movement. | |
| In November 2009 PACT held a very well attended and engaging film night in Penrith, with a packed audience enjoying several entertaining & inspirational environmental films, including: 'The Power of Community - How Cuba Survived Peak Oil'. |
|
During October 2009 PACT's Buildings & Energy Group staged a very successful Home Energy Fair, as part of Cumbria Action for Sustainability’s Green Build Festival. At the event there were speakers and trades stands on a variety of topics, including different types of insulation, monitoring energy use, and using renewable energy in different ways such as solar hot water, photovoltaics, heat pumps and biomass. In July 2009 the PACT Food Group ran an extremely successful evening event 'Food for Thought' in Penrith for 70 guests, featuring local celebrity chefIvan Day who entertained and educated his audience on the history of local foods from the Eden area, whilst demonstrating the making of a traditional grand salad and hand-made Victorian ice cream! The team put a tremendous amount of time and effort into this event, which helped to raise the profile of PACT and stimulate a good deal of networking among the participants, which is also one of PACT’s goals when it leads to the sharing of information and greater community involvement. | ||
| In June 2009 PACT's Resource & Waste action group successfully launched its campaign to highlight all the negative aspects of plastic bags, seeking to engage with Penrith shoppers and traders to find sustainable alternatives to plastic packaging locally. Several towns in the UK have already achieved plastic bag-free status in response to concerns over the harm to wildlife, the environment and sometimes to human health caused by plastic bag waste. Let's make Penrith next! More information from: | |
| During October 2008 PACT held a very positive & lively meeting in Penrith to begin developing its new action groups in key areas such as energy, transport, buildings, food, waste & recycling, education, health & well-being etc. Various Action Groups have since formed and are meeting to discuss and agree their initial ideas, identifying projects they may wish to pursue in each of these important transition areas. The outcomes of this meeting will help shape the future activities of PACT, starting to turn words into tangible actions and projects designed to kick-start the transition process for Penrith. Please do come over and say hello! This activity will continue over coming months - all welcome to get involved. | |
