Venue:
Sprint Mill

A day’s coppicing in Romola and Edward Acland’s 2 acre coppice wood, Oaks Wood, near Cowan Head. Meet at SPRINT MILL – 10.30 ( from Burneside follow signs to SKELSMERGH. After approx half a mile turn left where signed to Sprint Mill) – On arrival have an explore of the recently restored mill, before we set out, in convoy, to Oaks Wood.

WHY….OAKS WOOD is a fine example of a restored coppice wood with standards, which provides a huge range of RENEWABLE products…pea sticks, bean poles, hurdle poles, hedging stakes, firewood etc. Understanding (we’ll have a wee tour!) sustainable woodland management is key in a world in transition, i.e. learning to live a good life after finite oil reserves are as good as gone!

BRING….Tools if you have same….e.g. bushman’s saw/loppers/bill hook/gloves. Spare tools will be available. TAKE AWAY….some pea sticks, bean poles etc in return for your good work!

WEATHER….If it is foul, i.e. rain and/or snow the day is likely to be cancelled.
RSVP….would be helpful…edwardacland@freeuk.com or 01539 725168
