Penrith Community Garden: Cherry tree patch lavender We are taking over the neglected border at the bottom of Stricklandgate and Watson Terrace to plant and maintain a community fruit garden, planting current bushes, gooseberries and strawberries etc. With a border of lavender bushes to keep out the dogs. Eden District Council has OKed this.

Details of the Stricklandgate Community Fruit Garden inc photos.

On Sunday 18th March at 10.00 why not come and help to clear the moss, relocate the bulbs on the site and decide where and what we together can plant and how we can look after it. Bring any tools you have. Ask friends if they have spare fruit bushes, strawberry plants.

SOMETHING YOU CAN DO NOW… PLANT A LAVENDER BUSH AS A GESTURE OF SUPPORT (B&Q or B&M can supply).

Some have already been planted. Simply dig a small hole, 2ft in from the wall and 2ft apart, drop in the plant and firm the soil around it. (there should be a hand trowel by Roland Bateman’s 60th Birthday cherry tree in the centre of the plot). If you do this you will already be part of the garden’s development.

We are hoping to work with St Andrews gardening group to maintain this patch.
