GreenWays to Work volunteer opportunity

Work Experience : Give and Gain – Could you make a difference in tackling fuel poverty or improving job opportunities for Cumbrians?

Impact Housing is offering a work experience opportunity to a confident, enthusiastic, creative and self motivated individual, with an interest in, or experience of, the green agenda and an understanding of motivations and attitudes towards domestic fuel use and climate change.

About You and About the Job

Ideally we are looking for someone who can commit to 20+ hours per week with a certain level of flexibility, for a period of 3-6 months. You would be working closely with the GreenWays to Work team based at C47 in Carlisle, but travel to other parts of the county would be necessary on occasion with travel expenses covered if applicable.

We are looking for someone with strong people skills who can engage and enthuse others and is comfortable communicating with a diverse range of people. You should have good computer, admin, organisational and presentation skills.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience working within a successful European supported project delivering skills for climate change; it offers opportunities to develop your skills in marketing and publicity, communication and presentation, research and data input. Impact’s Greenways to Work staff will be on hand to provide training, guidance and technical assistance to you. You will increase your understanding of the various strategies and interventions in Cumbria to tackle climate change and learn from a variety of innovative individuals and partner organisations.

About GreenWays to Work

Greenways to Work is one of the Community Investment Team’s programmes within Impact Housing Association. Currently approaching the end of its second year of a three year project, GWtW has already delivered significant change in relation to energy awareness and skills in the renewable energies and recycling sectors within Cumbria. The project is part funded by the European Social Fund and aims to benefit 1200+ participants - building skills related to climate change.

There are three strands to the delivery- energy efficiency, recycling and renewable energies. Impact is working closely with partners, Cumbria Woodlands, and also has subcontracted elements of the training to Lakes College and Cumbria Action for Sustainability.

The project is part of the ESF’s Innovation, Transnational and Mainstreaming programme and therefore offers opportunities of involvement in transnational working and research and also in helping our expertise and initiatives to become mainstreamed into policy and programmes.

This is an opportunity where you could make a big difference to communities in Cumbria while extending your skills in a variety of areas. You will have opportunities to network and build useful links to those working in this sector. If you think that this is an interesting opportunity and have the qualities that we are looking for please contact Heather Lindsay at the GreenWays to Work office on 01228 633682 or by email heatherl@impacthousing.org.uk before the 22nd of July with some information about yourself. We propose to meet anyone who is interested on the afternoon of the 1st of August.
