Have you got things you don't need any more? Or maybe you're on the lookout for some bits and bobs. Well, drop in at Newbiggin Village Hall on Saturday 1 September from 10am to 12pm for the next Freegle Give & Take event. Bring along anything you want to pass on, or just come and take whatever others have brought.

Everything has to find a new home by the end! It's like a jumble sale, but everything is free - including entry.

You'll also be able to check out the composters and digesters available at a much reduced price from Recycle Cumbria. Judith from Cumbria County Council will be on hand to show you how they work.

No large goods, please, as we have to transport whatever's left to local charity shops (in small cars!).

Parking is available in the car parks outside the Old Fire Station.

Eden’s new Refill scheme is up and running!

Eden is the latest UK area to start a Refill scheme. It’s where shops, cafes and other places agree to give you a free refill of tap water if you come in with a water bottle.

Refill Eden was started in Penrith by PACT in late 2017 and it's spreading out across the district, from Appleby to Alston. It's supported by Cumbria County Council, with a helping hand from our local Surfers Against Sewage team.

Here's some items for us to consider:

We will want to look at where to go with the Plastic Bag Free Penrith campaign.

The PACT Steering Group have been running theme discussion evenings every two months.  There's a Transport one coming up on 7/12.  Can we run one of these next year, eg on a Resources and Waste theme, or simply a Freegle theme?

Freegle nationally is working with some councils to have a "Spring into Reuse" campaign in March, April and May next year.  Can we do something to support this?

Can we take forward our Plastic Bag Free Penrith campaign?

What else can we tackle?

I'm afraid not enough of us can make the meeting tonight so it is postponed again.

Can I suggest for now that if anyone has any ideas or comments, they be circulated by email?

My own rough ideas:

- run a 'Bring your own bag' campaign in Penrith encouraging shoppers to take their own bags shopping, with posters in shops and articles and adverts in the paper. This is a watered down version of what we'd originally planned but is achievable within our limited resources.
