Tackling the climate crisis + promoting Sustainability living in Penrith & Eden
What’s PACT all about?
In a nutshell, we're here to help everyone in Penrith & Eden to tread a little more lightly on the planet. Our goal is to help tackle the climate crisis and improve our local environment, for the benefit of people and nature.
Penrith Action for Community Transition (PACT) is a local community group that’s been helping to reduce our area’s carbon footprint for over 15 years. We do this by running projects and events to give local people the inspiration and support to take action in their own lives – from using less energy at home, to growing your own food. We also want to help our local area to become more resilient to the impacts that climate change is bringing, while also restoring biodiversity in our district. Comprised of enthusiastic volunteers, PACT addresses energy, transport, waste, food, and nature recovery to positively impact the local area.
Founded in 2008, PACT began as a grassroots organization responding to peak oil, climate change, and economic sustainability based on member initiatives. In 2013, it was registered as a Community Benefit Society. Find our governing policies and documents here.
With years of local experience as the climate and biodiversity crises have deepened, PACT has become established as a vehicle for effective local action and is one of eleven front-line “delivery partners” in the ongoing Lottery-funded Zero Carbon Cumbriaproject (2021-25).
