In his talk, ‘Climate change and conflict,’ Joe Human considers the ways in which climate change inflames pre-existing tensions within and between societies to make violence more likely. He will do this by looking at a small number of case studies from the Global South, which show how this is playing out. As the world warms up and environmental conditions deteriorate further, while populations and consumption grow, climate change as a ‘threat amplifier’ of conflict will be ever more evident and the need for conflict resolution ever more urgent.
