Penrith Community Gardeners bring cheer to the town in so many different ways!
They are a hugely enthusiastic group of volunteers who have transformed parts of Penrith with food growing and quirky displays.
If you’ve walked around Penrith, you’re sure to have enjoyed their handiwork – from the award-winning displays at Penrith train station, to the sea of wild daffodils at the castle.
Their displays bring pleasure for passers-by, but that’s just one element of what this group achieves. Their strength is in bringing people together, providing companionship, fun and supporting each other.
New members are always welcome. They meet once a week on a Tuesday morning, to work on their various projects.
Here are just a few of the areas around Penrith they’ve been working on this year:
- Penrith train station
- Penrith Castle grounds
- Stricklandgate Community Fruit Garden
- Maintaining flower borders eg Portland Place, Foster Street
- Helping at Coronation Garden
