Update from Action Groups

Food:

PD reported that the food group met at Shepherd’s Inn, Langwathby and the variety of various Organic Produce booklets was discussed. The group are looking to co-ordinate information on local/organic food and to produce the information in a single, readable format.

Next meeting first Friday in August (5th) at Moondawn Farm, Glassonby Beck at 7.00pm. [Later: venue to be announced]

Ovens:

Clay Ovens group met on Thursday 12 July at the Watermill – Nick Jones produced a booklet on oven building courses in August. These are scheduled every Monday with a follow-up on Tuesdays to be led by Peter Dicken. Leaflets at Watermill website and Bluebell Bookshop.

Action: CC to set up a web link to Watermill Site.

PD reported that the portable oven is now nearly mended. Next due out on 27 July then to Askham Village Swimming Pool refurbishment celebrations where there will also be a Hog-roast and Pizzas.

Energy

There was no report from the energy group.

Car Club

There was nothing to report regarding the Car Scheme.

Greening of Penrith

There have been two donations of £25 and £200.

Resources and Waste Group

Nothing to Report.

Freegle – may have open day for Newton Rigg students when they are back [Later: day booked for Saturday 24/9]

Projects for students

Would be useful if people could think of things to get students involved with. Any ideas welcome.

Perhaps they could hand out leaflets re the car scheme? They could promote adopting a planter for the Greening of Penrith or adopt a planter themselves?

Debate on Farming, 7 Sept

Venue – Friends Meeting House? Chris will try to book. Naomi van der Velden from Newton-Rigg is coming – she also suggested a farmer from Cockermouth.

Viv Lewis is leading the discussion. CC has asked her to propose a structure for the evening.

What to do about Publicity? Once details of venue etc known, email to all contacts. Need to do this before next Steering Group.

Any Other Business

YP asked if it has ever been considered to place an article in the Herald after discussion meetings by way of publicity for PACT – similar to articles submitted by groups such as the WI or Thyroid groups etc.

Discussion led to thought to ask Peter Clarke to write up a summary report of the recent Nuclear Discussion as well as getting someone to write up any future discussions for reporting afterwards.

Members are asked to invite those who they know that might be interested to attend the next discussion in relation to Farming.

CC will create some blurb for the website and we will look at posters etc at next month’s meeting.

Next Meeting

The next full steering group meeting will be held at Eden Mind’s FIVE Café on Weds 3/8. Chris may not be able to attend but will liaise with Chris Wood to ensure people have access.

Meeting ended at 7.55 pm
